01

Who we are

Center for Social Change is a private nonprofit organization that supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Center is a strong advocate for personal choices in community living for individuals who are developmentally, physically, psychologically and emotionally challenged. The Center is a board-driven organization and has 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code.

Since 1993, CSC has provided residential, vocational, supported employment, adult medical day, therapeutic integration, volunteer and advocacy services to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

02

Community, choice and belonging

CSC has the sensitivity and skills needed to serve individuals with multiple disabilities. The first people CSC supported residentially in the community came from Rosewood Center, Maryland’s largest state institution. Although community life presented new challenges after decades of institutional living, they were successfully integrated into their communities.

Today, people supported by CSC make choices about meals, activities, the décor of their homes and the staff who support them. Vacations, picnics, bowling, movies and shopping are among the everyday choices that help create a full life.

03

What person-centered support means

Person-centered support begins by seeing the whole person—their strengths, preferences, relationships, culture, routines and hopes for the future. Services should respond to the individual rather than asking the individual to fit a system.

That approach is reflected in everyday decisions: how a person spends their time, where they live, the skills they want to develop, how they participate in the community and what meaningful progress looks like for them.

  • Dignity and rights in every setting
  • Choice in daily life and long-term goals
  • Support that strengthens capability and independence
  • Connection to home, work and community
